INR crore, Panipat cluster export turnover. FY22 per Panipat Exporters Association via The Tribune; FY25 per the Union Textiles Ministry. All other years are Obten estimates of the cluster's growth path, including the FY23 yarn crisis dip. FY27 is an Obten projection: the flat FY26 resumes modest growth as US tariffs on Indian goods eased in February 2026, from the roughly 50 percent regime to about 15 to 18 percent after the 25 percent punitive duty was removed, the reciprocal rate was cut to 18 percent, and the Supreme Court struck down the IEEPA tariffs for a Section 122 surcharge. The India-EU FTA concluded January 2026 is a further forward signal, with its zero-duty textile access beginning only on entry into force, expected 2027.

Why source from Panipat

Panipat is a Town of Export Excellence for handlooms and home textiles: bathmats, rugs, durries, blankets, bed linen, cushions and curtains, with 450 plus exporting units and 8 to 10 lakh workers. It is also the world's largest textile recycling hub, converting imported used clothing into recycled yarn, which gives buyers a genuine sustainability story with GRS certified supply at scale. Reports credit Panipat with roughly 75 percent of India's hand tufted carpet and durrie exports.

Strengths and risks

Where India wins

  • Recycled cost advantage
Why it matters: The shoddy yarn base makes Panipat the price floor for recycled-content home textiles.
  • Genuine circular story
Why it matters: GRS-certified recycled supply at a scale EU buyers increasingly require.
  • Scale in floor coverings
Why it matters: Around three quarters of India's hand-tufted carpet and durrie exports.
  • Logistics
Why it matters: 90 km from Delhi with dense freight links to both western ports.

The risks, and how you manage them

  • Shade variation across dye lots on coordinated programs
How you manage it: Controlled dye formulas, approved references and batch tracking checked at inspection.
  • Quality slippage when the lowest quote wins
How you manage it: Screening weighs export record and audit history, not price alone.
  • MOQ and lead-time opacity across an MSME base
How you manage it: Terms confirmed per shortlisted supplier before you commit, in writing.
  • Documentation maturity varies widely
How you manage it: Export-record screening filters for units already shipping to your market.
